I have IE 7 beta installed on my laptop for a while now, and so far, I'm liking it. Its pretty stable, no bugs till now and it starts faster than IE 6 (at least on my laptop).
The new search textbox is kind of cool, it allows you to choose from a set of search engines, which include Google and MSN Search. MSN Search is the default search engine (of course), but you can set any search engine to be the default one.
Today, while I was writing some code, I fired up IE to search for a weird error I was getting in VS.NET 2003. I have Google set as my homepage, since I use it a lot during the day. When the Google homepage opened, a box appeared on the upper right corner of the webpage saying "Make Google your search engine in Internet Explorer" (image below)
The first reaction I got was, "cool, let me try it out". I clicked the button, and it prompted me to download a small executable file. I downloaded it and executed it. After it finished execution, a new IE window opens with a message saying that now I can use Google to search the web. Any way, so I opened the list of search engines expecting to see that Google is marked as the default search engine. It was the default alright, but it was the only search engine in the list!!!!!!!
Is this some sort of bug in IE 7, or Google doesn't want us to use any other search engine?????
